Straw hats can be traced back to the 16th century when it was predominantly used in Ecuador and later by the Spaniards. Civilizations in Asia too are known to have used this hat from early days. This type of hat, basically used as a protection to the eyes from the scorching sun provides a sense of relief and since it is ventilated, provided the much needed air flow into the hat. Made out of straw, they have been put to use for centuries and still command a great deal of patronage even in the modern era.
Straw hats are made by treating straw by either boiling it in water or steaming it so that they become soft and flexible. This is then woven by hand or using a mould. The color of this hat is usually the normal straw color, but today’s fashion minded people demand other colors too add to its beauty. The brim of the hat saves our eyes and face from direct sunlight and ultra violet rays. Fashion shows are a huge witness to the ever changing trend, but this hat type has been an exception and can still be seen to be used by models on the ramp.
